Four rules, and
they are not new.
Website release draft · October 2026
Respect the scene. Respect the people. Tell the truth. These rules apply to every dispatch.
Never get in the way
Post during or after an incident, never instead of getting clear of it. Do not enter a scene, cross a line, or put yourself where crews have to work around you. No photo is worth that.
No faces, no plates, no injuries
Victims’ faces, license plates and graphic injuries do not belong on Scout. If a photo cannot be posted without them, do not post it. People having the worst day of their lives are not content.
What you saw, not what you heard
Scanner traffic is not an eyewitness report. If you did not see it, leave it out or say plainly that you did not. A call type you guessed at is worse than no report.
Your own work
Only post photographs you took and words you have the right to share. Contributor photos remain the property of their creators. Your work stays yours, and so does everyone else’s.
Reporting and blocking
Signed-in readers can report a dispatch from its story page. Three distinct reports temporarily hide it pending review. You can block a contributor to hide each other’s posts from signed-in views. Manage your blocks in your account.
Corrections and appeals
Correct your own story from your account. For a disputed report, removal, privacy concern or appeal, contact Scout with the story link and a clear description of the issue.
